Thanksgiving brunch has an international flair

The North campus English for Speakers of Other Languages department served up food and entertainment from a variety of nations at the recent International Thanksgiving Brunch.

Student Anu Pillai, representing the nation of India, performed a mystical and graceful Indian folk dance, and student Azucena Banda performed a traditional Mexican folk dance. Marcos Heredia played guitar and sang several popular Latino songs.

Visitors enjoyed entrees and deserts from Peru, Honduras, India, Venezuela, Colombia, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Korea, Palestine, El Salvador, and México. A highlight of the event was a lively round of loteria — Mexican bingo. The International Thanksgiving Brunch provides ESOL students an opportunity to highlight their accomplishments, and to network with faculty they will encounter in future courses.

Kudos to ESOL instructors Lisa Smith, Myrna Gonzalez, Maria Williams and Joanne McAfee for putting together a wonderful program that reflects the amazing cultural diversity of the College.
