    AAWCC Angel Trees

Happy holidays from the San Jacinto College chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges(AAWCC). We hope you had a relaxing Thanksgiving with family and friends (and lots of turkey, too)!

Our main focus this year is to support the two national AAWCC initiatives – childcare on campus and women in STEM fields. This holiday season, we will have Angel Trees on each campus that will allow employees to purchase an item for the childcare centers, or to make a monetary donation. In March, we will be featuring some of our own faculty and staff who have pursued a STEM career with news articles and website spotlights. We hope you will help us support these initiatives! San Jacinto College South holds annual children’s parade

Dr. Toni Pendergrass and her son, Douglas, recently participated in the Children’s Bicycle Parade at the South campus.

The event, sponsored by the children’s center, was held in honor of Week of the Young Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month. Pendergrass served as the parade’s grand marshal, while Nancy Hutchinson marched with her sign for receiving Teacher of the Year from the Gulf Coast Association for the Education of Young Children.

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) with the purpose of focusing public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood services that meet those needs. National Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed each April to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families.
