Second Annual Fine Arts Expo

The Second Annual Fine Arts Expo was held Thursday, March 28 at the San Jacinto College North Campus. The campus welcomed 1,500 attendees, including parents, students, and volunteers.

The Fine Arts Expo is a joint partnership of San Jacinto College and Communities In Schools Texas Joint Venture for local ISD students to perform; showcase their art; and, experience artwork and concerts by San Jacinto College students.

“The underlying thread through all of this, is to get children and their families on a San Jac campus for a positive experience,” said Randy Snyder, department chair of fine arts, speech and education. “The intent is for children to see that college is possible and leave with the belief that college is a place of learning, fun, and enriching experiences.”

The event includes simultaneous concerts/activities taking place every twenty minutes in several venues, which creates a carnival feel. There are three concert venues, two activity venues, and the Galleria del Norte exhibiting student artwork.

As each student entered the building, their parents/guardians register and the child received an ARTS EXPO bag with goodies (SJC brochures and the like). The evening culminates with a closing ceremony that includes a drawing for prizes.
