Thinking and Beyond QEP Design Winner

San Jacinto College Fine Arts student Jill B. Gilbert earned $300 for her winning design for the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Thinking and Beyond. Gilbert’s design will be the visual representation of the QEP. Members of the QEP Steering Committee and Dr. Laurel Williamson celebrated the student artists at a luncheon on Central campus, Friday, April 20. At the luncheon, Gilbert explained that she wanted to emphasize how critical thinking combines both left and right brain functions, so she incorporated different shading on the sides of the brain in her design that also includes the San Jacinto star with the addition of a USB to show the intersection of technology and thinking at San Jacinto College.

Bailey Cauthen and Rogelio Dominguez also earned prize money for submitting designs to the contest that asked students to think about what the QEP topic of critical thinking means to them. The contest received 26 designs from San Jacinto College students.

The QEP is an integral part of the College’s reaffirmation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Faculty and staff from across the College collaborated during an extensive series of focus groups to determine the topic that would most effectively assist San Jacinto College students to achieve their goals. Students voted to name the QEP Thinking and Beyond.
