San Jac and Pasadena Fire Marshal delivers toys to Shriners Burn Hospital for Children

Submitted by Dr. Janice Sullivan, dean of community education~

Pasadena Deputy Fire Marshal Rafael Chacon conducted several home fire safety workshops recently at the Continuing and Professional Development (CPD) division’s Community Education Center on the Central Campus (C-1.108). Participants were trained on home fire safety, prevention, kitchen fires and holiday fire hazards.

We are so thankful to Mr. Chacon and this invaluable service to the San Jac family and the community. CPD was delighted to show our appreciation by supporting the Pasadena Fire Marshal’s Office (PFMO) Annual Toy Drive for the children at the Shriners Burn Hospital in Galveston.  Generous CPD employees donated a large box and numerous shopping bags overflowing with new, unwrapped toys.

The Pasadena Fire Marshal’s office collected and delivered four truckloads of toys to the hospital on November 21.  Certainly, the toys will help to brighten the season for the children hospitalized with burn injuries, and will bring wide-brimmed smiles to their faces.  Representing the college were Dr. Janice Sullivan, CPD Dean of Community Education, and Abijah Kratochvil, CPD Director of Lifelong Learning. A big thank you to all that contributed to the toy drive and for enriching the quality of life in the community!

Speaking of toys, the Lakeshore Learning Store will be hosting a Toy Safety workshop on Tuesday, December 19 at 12 p.m. in C-1.108.  Come see actual toy samples, currently on the market, to know what to avoid and what to look for when shopping for children’s toys.  Hope you can join us!
