The San Jacinto College South Campus recently hosted the annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Houston Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash 5K event on Saturday, May 13, 2017. The annual event brings thousands of people in more than 60 cities around the nation who walk to support MADD’s mission of ending drunk driving. This year’s Houston event saw 39 teams, a total of 429 participants and raised $81,741. The College is proud to have served as this year’s host for the Houston Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash.
This was a remarkable event, very well planned by the MADD Walk Committee. One of the members of the North Channel Area Chamber served with that group and invited me out. The one thing that I heard from so many of the walkers and the vendors was how much they appreciated the willingness of Marina Keith to work with the community to make this event a success. Way to go Marina!
Students in the San Jacinto College South Campus education students recently held a school supply drive to benefit children and families living within Pasadena ISD who are affected by homelessness. Students collected an estimated $5,000 worth of school supply donations.
Earlier this year, the South Campus cosmetology department partnered with the Harris County Southeast Volunteer Fire Department to collect school supplies for students at Stuchbery Elementary, another Pasadena ISD school. We thank our students, staff, and faculty for continuing to serve our local communities.
Everyone had a great time at the Aspen Rising Star Award celebration. Sarah Pepper from Mix 96.5 served as MC with Dr. Brenda Hellyer and Dan Mims welcoming and recognizing everyone for making San Jacinto College a national Top 5 community college!
At the May meeting of the San Jacinto College Board of Trustees, the Board recognized the following groups for their accomplishments. Congratulations to all!
Congratulations to all of the 2017 Service Award recipients! A special thank you to the Human Resources team for putting together another wonderful event.
