Our deepest sympathies go to Noveta Wimbley on the recent passing of her mother, Alicia Vaughns.

Ms. Vaughns was born on February 17, 1938 in Dickerson, Texas.  She passed very peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2017, after a long struggle with dementia.  Noveta describes her mother as a very strong-willed and independent mother and grandmother.  She loved music, dancing and was a very good outhern cook.

Ms. Vaughns was a member of Jones Memorial United Baptist Church, and she instilled a strong biblical faith of her Savior in her children.

She is survived by her five children and eight grandchildren, all who will miss her terribly.

A memorial service honoring the life of Ms. Vaughns will be held on April 29, 2017, in Houston, Texas.
Noveta is the Enterprise Application Development Manager for IT.

    Spring Monument Award Nominations

Don’t forget to nominate someone for the Monument Awards Program (MAP) before April 28!

Living the Values is an individual award designed to recognize behaviors demonstrated by the College values.  It is open to nominations for both full and part-time employees with acceptable performance.  The nominations for Living the Values must come from the employee’s immediate leader, a senior leader, or Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) member.

The San Jacinto College Monument Award is a recognition awarded for up to ten (10) teams per year for sustained, exceptional performance above and beyond performance expectations for the completion of deliverables identified in the annual priorities or strategic goals.  Eligibility is open to full and part-time employees with acceptable performance.  This award may only be nominated by a senior leader or a Strategic Leadership Team member and may be awarded to five (5) teams in the fall and five (5) teams in the spring.

A recognition website has been setup with additional information about each of the various awards.  For the Living the Values awards, leaders will need to review and confirm eligibility for employees nominated before the forms routes to Human Resources.  Nominations for the Monument Award are by team. Human Resources will collect the nominations and present to the Strategic Leadership Team for final selection of the recipients.

The spring nomination period is currently open and will run through Friday, April 28.   Please take the time to nominate your employees for the awards this year.  Let’s make the pilot of the Monument Awards Program a success!

District San Jacinto Day cook-out was another hit!

The annual San Jacinto Day cook-out was another hit at the College’s district offices!  A special thank you to Bill Dickerson for cooking the burgers and hot dogs and to all of those who provided their delicious dishes as well.  Until next year!

Procter & Gamble visit the South Campus

The South Campus natural sciences department hosted Luis Soler from Procter & Gamble, to discuss STEM career opportunities at the company and how to begin a career pathway that leads to companies of that caliber.  Soler also discussed entry-level opportunities available at global companies for students who complete an associate degree. In total, about 56 students attended the presentation and received great information.

    So tell us about yourself!

Call for submissions: What’s your other life? This month, we learned Sandi Morgan is a lifelong dancer and continues to dance at Houston Rockets games when she’s not on campus.
