2017 San Jacinto Symposium

The 17th annual San Jacinto Symposium is coming up on Saturday, April 8, and it concentrates on – logically – the Battle of San Jacinto!

This Symposium will be held a scant half-mile north of the Battleground.  Four outstanding scholars will discuss the soldiers, arms and battle tactics of Texan and Mexican armies, then conduct optional afternoon tours of the actual ground where one of the key battles in American history was fought.  Speakers, parking and lunch is $50.  Optional tours are $25.

Details about the speakers, their topics, and registration are laid out in the attached flyer.  I hope you will circulate this to those of your colleagues who teach Texas history – or who simply might be interested in it.

Students have attended past symposia (free if they don’t eat), and they’re welcome to hear the speakers again this year.  However, TV might be a more convenient option.  I’m delighted to say that Houston Media Source will be broadcasting the lectures (not the tours) live, on April 8, from 9  a.m. to 2 p.m.  Simply log in to http://www.hmstv.org, click on “how to watch”, then “watch online here”.

Please let me know if students want to attend in person, if you’d like paper copies of the flyer – or if you have other questions.  I hope to see San Jacinto College represented at the San Jacinto Symposium — about the Battle of San Jacinto!
