5th annual South Campus Summer Literacy Institute- August 4-5

Screen Shot 2016-06-20 at 3.03.38 PM

College as we know it is becoming a thing of the past!  It’s up to us to recreate it!

That has been an ongoing conversation in College Prep for a long time, but now academic-level faculty are being asked to partner with College Prep and Continuing and Professional Development to create academic pathways for students that will support their academic success and college completion.

College Prep at South is in its 5th year of sponsoring the Summer Literacy Institute!  SLI will take place on South on August 4-5, 2016.  The registration fee of $75 is always waived for part- and full-time SJC faculty. This year, faculty from across Texas will gather on our campus to Turn the Wave Inside Out!  We will address the many issues facing the college community: accelerating program time to completion, developing clearer and more direct pathways of study, ensuring the rigor and quality of instruction, and developing engaging learning environments for students.

We are accepting proposals now for conference sessions; the deadline for submission is July 1st.  We would love to partner with you!

Please visit our blog for proposal forms and further details.

Check out our Literacy Café Blog

I hope you will join us in this important work!

Please contact Sonya Price (sonya.prince@sjcd.edu) or Lori Rhodes (lori.rhodes@sjcd.edu) if you have questions.

    Thank you!

AT&T ‘It Can Wait’ campaign visited Central Campus

On Thursday, June 9, the AT&T “It Can Wait” campaign came to San Jacinto College. The 3D virtual reality simulator was on the Central Campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A press conference with Chancellor Hellyer, Mike Flanagan from AT&T, Harris County Pct. 8 Constable Phil Sandlin, and Deer Park Police Chief Greg Greigg was held at 10 a.m.

In case you missed it and want to see what the simulator and campaign are all about, a demo of the goggles can be seen here, and this is the view when wearing the goggles.
