Summer Literacy Institute on the horizon
Hello Colleagues,
It is hard to believe that the spring semester is coming to a close. I have attached the San Jacinto College Summer Literacy Institute (SLI) details with the most current Call to Conference. The field of Developmental Education is evolving, and SLI will address the many ways collaboration in and outside of the college is becoming an important conversation in how we accelerate students. Doing that while providing students with productive academic experiences that support their academic and career goals has become a hot topic in Dev Ed. (More …)

As seen on TV
Tune in on Sunday, May 15 at 12:30 to Channel 13’s popular Viva Houston show to see Dinorah Ramos, North Campus career and employment services coordinator, as she talks about career assessments and other resources that the College provides to students.
Dinorah is shown, center, at the Channel 13 studios along with Viva Houston host Erik Barajas (a San Jacinto College alumnus), and Margie Pena, who represents Neighborhood Centers Inc., a community partner of San Jacinto College.
Congratulations to Dinorah, who was outstanding as an ambassador for San Jacinto College.

Daniel Gotera from KHOU visits baseball practice
Daniel Gotera, sports reporter at KHOU Channel 11, visited the San Jacinto College baseball team on Tuesday, May 3. He spoke with student manager Diego Villatoro, who helped San Jac close out a game against South Suburban College last month, as well as Head Coach Tom Arrington, and student-athlete Baine Schoenvogel. If you missed the story that aired on the 10 p.m. news, you can see it here.
Kudos to Coach Arrington and the entire San Jac baseball team, and good luck at this week’s regional tournament!

Congrats San Jac Softball!
With four straight wins (can you say sweep?!) at this weekend’s Region XIV Tournament, the San Jac softball team is headed back to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament. The return to nationals is the third in school history. The national tournament will take place May 18 – 24 in St. George, Utah.
A huge congratulations to Head Coach Kelly Saenz, Assistant Coach Kelsey Waters, and the entire San Jacinto College softball team. And good luck at nationals!
You can read more about the Region XIV win here, and visit the Region XIV tournament website for a full tournament recap.

I attended Vocational Nursing in 2004 and LVN-ADN Mobility in 2010 at South campus. I then earned my baccalaureate from UTMB and returned to SJC in May 2016 to teach in the Vocational Nursing program. The program quality was exceptional for my educational experience and exceeded my expectations. The instructors in both programs took the time to assist me when I had questions or needed extra help. They didn’t just care about me as a student, they also cared about me as an individual. When anyone asks which school they should attend to study nursing, I’ve always recommended San Jac.
