South Campus Communications Career Day

The San Jacinto College South Campus communications department recently held their Communications Career Day featuring a variety of activities and information tables for students to visit.  All of the activities exemplified the importance of communication in various contexts. Free popcorn was provided by the Student Life office. Lastly, the grand finale was a panel discussion with several professionals in the STEM fields.  Ms. Rukiya Akua, Speech Professor served as the moderator for the panel. Ms. Akua directed various questions to the panelists so as to showcase each of the panelists’ strengths.  The panel consisted of the following: Dr. Marc Fleming, Pharmacist and Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy; Mr. Josh Hawley, CPA and Senior Associate at Ernst & Young LLP; Registered Nurse Kina Rogers, MSN, MBA Assistant Nurse Manager at Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center, and owner of CPR Associates of Houston; Mr. Daniel E. Ramírez, Senior Software Engineer for Lockheed Martin; Ms. Amanda Foss, HR Manager of Training and Development with Hilcorp; Mr. Shawn Howard, IT Business Intelligence Analyst at AIG; and Ms. Kayla Buhl-Alix, IT Technical Analyst at Center Point Energy. Over 300 students participated in the various activities and panel discussion.
