    AEOP Recognized at Board of Trustees meeting 

    The San Jacinto College Board of Trustees recognized the College’s Association of Educational Support Staff Personnel (AEOP) at its meeting on Monday, Oct. 5. Donna Cubstead, AEOP President, recapped the year’s events, and recognized individual members for their successes this year. (More …)

    Hispanic Heritage Celebration 

    Employees at the district offices were treated to a fiesta on Friday, October 9. With choco flan, pastel de tres leches, pan dulce, churros, empanadas, cocas Mexiana and more, it was a treat! Kudos to those involved with organizing the event!

    Our deepest sympathies go to Stephen Trncak, on the recent passing of his wife, Barbara Lynn Trncak.

    Barbara passed away on October 4, 2015, following a 10 year courageous battle with cancer.

    Barbara had an abundant zest for life, a vibrant smile, and was a beacon of joy to all she met. Everyone she came across was moved by her positive outlook, humor, and always left with a smile on their face. She was deeply interested, genuinely cared, and was enriched by other’s lives and families.

    Barbara’s foundation was anchored in family, friends, her church family of 30 years, and serving as a SWA flight attendant for 38 years. Barbara had a true passion for spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, and sunsets in the hill country. Her family and friends will deeply miss her kindness, her friendship, and her laughter.

    Barbara is survived by her loving husband Stephen, daughter Taylor, son Todd and fiancé Katy, and brothers Robert Johannesen Jr. and Terry Johannesen.

    Barbara was preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert F. and Margaret Johannesen of Arlington, Texas.

    Celebratory funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas. The visitation with family will begin at 12:00 pm and a memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m.

    Congratulations Keith Family! 

    With great excitement, Christy Keith and Mitchell Keith welcomed their first baby, Emma May Keith, into the world. Born on September 25, 2015 at 9:20 pm, 8 lbs. 5 oz., 20.5 in. long.

    Christy is the Student Success Center Director on Central Campus.

    Jerrel Wade honored as outstanding alumnus 

    Congratulations to Dr. Jerrel Wade, Dean of Administration at the North Campus, who was recently recognized in the University of Houston College of Education newsletter as an outstanding alumnus. Each edition of their newsletter features a graduate who is making a contribution to the field of education.

    Dean Wade holds an Ed.D. in Administration and Supervision from UH. He also holds a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Oklahoma.

    Dr. Wade began work for San Jacinto College in 2006 as the South Campus Coordinator of Student Life. In 2008, he became the Director of Recruitment Initiatives for the District. In 2013, he assumed his current role as Dean of Administration.

    Dr. Wade was surprised, but honored when he learned of his outstanding alumnus recognition. “It’s always a good feeling to be recognized for your efforts,” he commented. “I was nominated by Dr. Lyle McKinney, who was one of my professors at UH. He also served as my program advisor and dissertation chair.”

    Dr. Wade and his wife Alicia have been married 10 years, and they have a 7-year-old son named Jonathan.

    Jerrel says education has played a role in every success in his life, directly or indirectly. “I’ve had the opportunity to present at, and travel to, various conferences around the country, and by doing so I have met and worked with amazing people in the field,” he said. “My commitment to education shaped my career path, which has now allowed me to give back and help guide students to make the most of their opportunities. In short, I love what I do and look forward to many more years helping students achieve their goals, however I can.”

    Online Auction Items Updates 


    As many of you are aware, San Jacinto College (SJC) is now using an online auction service to dispose of surplus property items.  The online auction service has given SJC the ability to earn greater revenue and the opportunity to streamline and update procedures.  One of the processes that Auxiliary Services modified is the procedure that removes items from a department and into the auction cycle.

    As a result of our transition to the online auction system, the auction form, instructions and work flow have been modified.  The mentioned links are PDF files for the new form, instructions and flow chart to be utilized by employees when disposing of surplus property; please delete any old forms to avoid confusion.  The revised forms have replaced the former on the internal website.

    When reviewing the new form and instructions, please note that there have been significant changes in the routing of the form.  Auction forms will now move more directly and speedily throughout the process in an effort to have items removed quickly and placed up for auction in a timely manner.

    Along with new procedures for action items, we will now be able to give staff members the opportunity to re-purpose items before items are auctioned.  If an item is in good working condition and can be reused on campus, surplus property will be placed on the public drive to be viewed and selected for reuse.  Available items will be placed within a MS Access file along with an instruction sheet in the (P:) Surplus Property folder.  Currently this folder is empty because there are no items that meet the re-purpose criteria.  Periodic emails will be sent to employees as items become available.

    When requesting a repurposed item, please be aware that many items will need the approval of the Campus Dean of Administration.  This approval is needed to maintain furniture standards along with other facilities requirements.  Once items have been selected and approved, we will work with Maintenance in order to have items moved quickly.
