We are having Social Media Day on each campus in September. Everyone is invited! Please feel free to share the attached flyer with your students and encourage them to participate when they are not in class.
And coming soon…
Scylla Lopez will be conducting Social Media 101 sessions on each campus. The sessions will focus on one social media platform at a time. In addition, we will be bringing in speakers to talk to students and employees about a variety of social media topics, including using social media in the classroom for faculty. We have scheduled KHOU anchor Lily Jang to come to North Campus in November as well. This event is open to the entire San Jacinto College community. She will be speaking on Social Media and Your Career. Be on the lookout for more details on these social media events.
This week South Campus biology department chair, Dr. Mary Wisgirda, challenged South Campus deans Joseph Hebert, Dr. Alexander Okwonna, and Kevin Morris during her ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The deans accepted her challenge and put forth theirs- Central and North Campuses- you’re next! Click here to watch the video of Dr. Mary Wisgirda’s challenge and here to view the South Campus deans’ challenge.
The South Campus FYE and student life departments recently hosted Premiere Day 2014. Faculty, staff, and FYE orientation leaders met with the group of new students talking about their own first experiences at the College, what to expect, study tips, and more. FYE orientation leaders also lead teams of students around campus for the Premiere Day Scavenger Hunt. Students were given clues to find objects around campus, giving them a more fun way to explore the campus prior to the semester start. Thanks to FYE and student life for another great Premiere Day event!

Jo Anne is the Senior Administrative Assistant for Biological, Agricultural and Physical Sciences at Central campus.
I have a group of about 12 who I think might be interested in attending. Is there a limit on the number of students that can participate? The students will be from Channelview and Galena Park High School.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez recently visited San Jacinto College where students and graduates showcased their skills in the areas of process technology, nursing, instrumentation, and cybersecurity. The Secretary’s visit was part of a nationwide tour to see workforce training in various regions and to discuss issues regarding the economy and moving more workers into high-demand fields. Part of the San Jacinto College visit included tours and discussions of the training students have received, thanks to assistance from the Healthcare Pathways grant and the Technology Training for Tomorrow (IT3) grant, which were both awarded from the Department of Labor.
