AAWCC wants YOU!

Welcome back! We are gearing up for another exciting AAWCC year here at San Jacinto College. As chapter president for 2013-2014, I hope you’ll join us by renewing your membership, and encourage your colleagues to join as well. The membership form can be found online at internal.sanjac.edu/node/6154. We’re looking at the possibility of hosting a regional conference this year, so we’ll be looking for your input and assistance with that project, and we’re working on another great lineup of informational meetings.

In case you didn’t know, here is a little background information about AAWCC. The organization was formed in 1973 and became an Affiliate Council of the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges (AACJC), now the American Association for Community Colleges (AACC).  It is guided in all of its endeavors by a firm commitment to equity and excellence in education and employment for women and men in community, junior, and technical colleges. That commitment is translated into action at the national, regional, state, and local levels through AAWCC programs, activities, and services. San Jacinto College formed a chapter about four years ago, and our service projects have included Dress for Success and our children’s centers. Membership is open to anyone at San Jacinto College – faculty, staff, administrators, and students – and benefits include networking, support, and professional development.

Nationally, our very own Dr. Allatia Harris, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives, is the national AAWCC president, and Dr. Sallie Kay Janes, vice president for continuing and professional development, is a regional director.

Again, welcome back to another semester. Be on the lookout for an email and Watercooler postings about upcoming AAWCC events and meetings. We hope you’ll join us!
