Pharmacy Technician Students visit Austin

Pharmacy technician students from the San Jacinto College North Campus attended an educational fieldtrip to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy on April 19, 2013. All are connected by an interest in medicines – how they work, how they are made, and how they are used by people to prevent and treat disease. Students raised funds for the trip through various fundraisers including T-shirt sales, candle sales, and Gator Day sales (Chic –fil-A sandwiches).

The Texas State Board of Pharmacy’s Director, Allison Benz, informed the students about laws and rules relating to the practice of pharmacy in Texas. The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy Senior Academic Advisor, Gregory Caldera, explained what goes on inside its classrooms and laboratories and how it affects people around the world.  The students were able to experience an educational tour and presentation on information about pharmacy career options, in-depth detail on the admissions process, and tips on putting together a strong application for pharmacy school.
