Take me out to the ballgame

As part of the College’s 50th anniversary celebration, the baseball team recognized former players, and held a celebration for the community on April 28 at J.R. Harrison Field.

Former head baseball coach and current Rice University head coach Wayne Graham threw out the first pitch, and was presented with a 50th anniversary commemorative poster. The team won five JUCO World Series titles under Graham’s leadership, and he is in the NJCAA Hall of Fame, and was recently inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Festivities for the day included pony rides, face painting, and a moonwalk for the kids; food; giveaways; and a disc jockey. Baseball alumni and former players were recognized in between games, and the College gave away a $500 scholarship to a lucky student.

Kudos to all who helped to coordinate the hugely successful 50th anniversary celebration, including Dr. Allatia Harris, Teri Fowlé, Amanda Booren, Charlotte Jackson, Rob Vanya, Serita Dickey, Tom Arrington, Dr. Gary Friery, Andrea Mitchen, Amy Ammerman, Sergio Garcia, Donna Jones, Ruth Keenan, Josh Johnson, Dr. Lamar McWaine, David Gardner, and others.
