Visitation and funeral service for Clifford Wayne Slovacek

Clifford Wayne Slovacek, 89, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend to many, went to be with his Lord and joined his beloved wife of 59 years, Marja Faye, on Sunday, March 4, 2012. Wayne was born on October 28, 1922 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Jennie and Joseph Slovacek.

Wayne served his country with pride in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 until his discharge in 1946 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.

During Wayne’s tenure of 44 years with Union Equity Cooperative Exchange, he oversaw the purchase of 63 acres fronting the Houston Ship Channel and construction of the grain elevator.

Wayne was fondly known as “Mr. Deer Park” for his outstanding leadership in organizations, including the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, Deer Park Masonic Lodge, and the Deer Park Rotary Club, where he was a charter member and Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the Board of Trustees for San Jacinto College for 39 years, retiring as Trustee Emeritus.

Wayne faithfully served the Lord as an Elder at Pasadena First Christian Church and later as a Deacon at Deer Park First Baptist Church.

Many honors have been awarded to Wayne for service to his community: Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Wayne Slovacek Humanitarian Award named in his honor, and Outstanding Christian Layman of the Year. He also received the Key to the City of Deer Park. While Wayne valued the recognition he received from his community, his true calling was in serving the Lord and his family. He was a man who knew the meaning of commitment, integrity, loyalty, and honor. He devoted his life to loving others. We will miss this sweet, kind and dear man. Preceding Wayne in death was daughter Diana Slovacek and sisters Virgina Brane and Jolene Woodard, and brother Carrol Slovacek. He is survived by his sister Villa Marie Walthall, son Joe Slovacek and wife Pam, and grandchildren Marlee Calvert and husband Jess, Samuel Slovacek and wife Natalie, Madison Slovacek, Lindsay McKay and husband Chris, and Tyler Bowman and wife Becca. Wayne also had four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Caroline Calvert, Michael Slovacek, and Avery Bowman. The family would also like to mention his dear and unwavering friends Norma Moses, and Frank Semmelman.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, March 6th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Deer Park First Baptist Church, 438 E. 8th St., Deer Park, Texas. Graveside service with military honors will take place on Wednesday, March 7th, at 10:00 a.m., Grand View Memorial Park, Pasadena, Texas. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Park First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Deer Park First Baptist Church or a charity of choice .
