    San Jacinto College’s Schools App on Facebook 

    With the semester well under way, we hope that everything is going smoothly!

    You may remember receiving an email from inigral.com inviting you to become members of San Jacinto College’s Schools App on Facebook. We’d like to take another opportunity to invite you to join us and learn more about Schools App.  We’re very excited to bring you this opportunity as part of a grant the College received.

    This application functions as a “Facebook within Facebook” just for San Jacinto College students, faculty, and staff. Within this application you’ll be able to create a profile naming your hometown and areas of interest. You’ll also be able to interact with students and fellow faculty and staff members in an environment specifically created just for San Jac! (More …)

    It’s our day! College Community Day 2012 

    San Jacinto College held its annual College Community Day on Feb. 23. Faculty and staff began their morning congregating at the Pasadena Convention Center for presentations from the Institutional Research Office, aSPIRE, on retention and persistence and the data teams from each campus. Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer talked about the external awareness/perception survey and the internal Organizational Wellness Instrument (OWI) survey. (More …)

    African-American Read-in 

    In conjunction with African-American History Month, the North Campus recently hosted the fourth annual African-American Rad-in, featuring readings of literary works of noted African-American authors, as well as readings of key historical narratives.
    People contributing to the educational and inspirational multi-media presentation included Lamar McWaine, Dr. RaShaunda Sterling, Jerry Wallace, Sherron Lux, Dr. Karen Hattaway, Dedra White, Dr. DeRhonda McWaine, Dr. Richard Bailey, Betty Malveo, Serita Dickey, Karyn Jones, Ronald Hopkins, Sandra Curry, and Dr. Allatia Harris.
    Those attending were treated to samples of genuine soul food (turnip greens, corn fritters, black-eyed peas, fried chicken, fried catfish, and corn pone), prepared by a culinary arts team under the direction of Steve Rudd, Sean Perrodin, and Donna Jones.

    South Campus- Website 101/Marketing roundtable Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. 

    Good morning South Campus! The marketing department will hold a website 101 / marketing roundtable this Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Kaleidoscope Room.     Our deepest sympathy to Theresa Powell and Eva Johnson on the recent passing of their mother, Dorothy Harris.  She passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

    Visitation will be Tuesday, February 21 from 9 – 10:45 a.m. and the Homegoing Celebration will be at 11 a.m. at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 2625 Broad Street, Baytown TX 77521.

    Mrs. Harris retired from San Jacinto College in 1993, as serving as a Custodian for 17 years.  Theresa is currently the Division Operational Manager of the Health Science Division at North.  Eva is an Enrollment Service Specialist in the Enrollment Services Office at North.

    Brittany scores a 100 on her San Jac 80s pop quiz! 

    Congratulations to Brittany Waters in payroll for scoring a 100 on her San Jacinto College 1980s history quiz! Waters received a SJC tumbler for answering all of the answers correctly. Look for two more San Jacinto College 50th anniversary quizzes to come your way – via email-  on San Jac in the 1990s and 2000s!

    Who will be the next President? 

    North Campus professors (from left) Duane Emmons (government), Rose Mary Istre (psychology), Ryan Navejar (economics), and Patrizio Amezcua (government) talked about various issues regarding the 2012 Presidential election on Feb. 16 in a panel discussion and open forum at the North Campus.

    The forum included a multimedia lecture, as well as a question and answer session that enabled students to interact with the professors and with one another.

    AAWCC meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15 

    Hello and welcome back to a new semester! The San Jacinto College Chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) invites you to its third meeting of the 2011-2012 year on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. We’ll meet in the Central Campus ILC Kaleidoscope Room for a brown bag lunch meeting. Pack your lunch and join us as we have a jam-packed agenda!

    We’ll present each of our children’s centers with the money and gifts raised from our Angel Tree project. We had a great turnout from all of our employees! THANK YOU! We’ll also hear from Kristen Redding about how to balance work and life, and talk a little bit about the AAWCC scholarships and Dress for Success initiative.

    If you haven’t joined, no problem! Membership information will be available at the meeting, and you can sign up then. Current members are encouraged to bring a friend or student for a chance to win a prize.

    We are excited about another exciting year of celebrating the talents of the women at San Jacinto College! We hope you will join us!
