Congratulations, Dr. Deborah Myles!

Along with a new position as dean of student development at the Central Campus, Dr. Deborah Myles has also received a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Doctoral Incentive Loan Repayment Program Award for her education and professional accomplishments.

The program works to attract members of underrepresented groups to full-time service as faculty members or administrators at public or independent institutions of higher education in Texas. Myles was granted the award after completing her Doctorate in Counselor Education from Texas Southern University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. As a Central Campus dean, Myles oversees student discipline and engagement and manage the first year experience program, student life, educational planning and counseling, career and employment, and plans to expand the Never Too Late program for nontraditional students.

Prior to her arrival at SJC, she taught psychology at Houston Community College, served as director of student services for Westwood College, taught in Houston Independent School District for several years, and continues to work in private practice as a licensed professional counselor.
