March Board meeting highlights

Monday night’s board meeting was a busy one! Faculty, staff, and students from around the College were recognized for doing great things! Congratulations to all who received recognition!

Chris Shelton, a North campus student, was one of 10 finalists (from more than 1,000 entries), for the NISOD essay contest. He wrote about his experience at San Jac, and with Ruth Keenan, who at the time was the career and employment center director at the North campus.

Pauline Ecklund, a student at the South campus, was another top-10 finalist (yes, San Jacinto College had TWO top-10 finalists) in the NISOD essay contest. She also wrote about her experience at San Jacinto College, and how one employee in particular, Angie Sprowl, helped her get enrolled and succeed.

Nancy Hutchinson was recognized for being named the Classroom Teacher of the Year for the State of Texas. Read about her story here.

Joe Hamilton, program director for the Emergency Medical Technology department at the Central campus, was recognized for earning the 2010 EMS Educator Award by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Read his story here.

Kathy Greenway, director of the child care center at the North campus, was recognized for her work with United Way-Bright Beginnings, and her upcoming trip to Italy to study early education in that country.

And finally, six students from the North campus were recognized for being selected to the Texas Two-Year College All-State Choir.
