    Custodial Appreciation Day Nov. 11 

    Good afternoon! The San Jacinto College Men of Honor (MOH) will be sponsoring a Custodial Appreciation Day on Thursday, November 11, 2011 from 1 p.m. -6 p.m. On this day, a group of MOH student participants and employee supporters performing the clean-up services will perform campus beautification at each campus on a specific schedule between the time stated above.

    If you would like to participate in this service activity, please make contact with Eddie Simpson, eddie.simpson@sjcd.edu; 281-998-6150 ext. 1331 or Leonard Simpson II, leonard.simpson@sjcd.edu, 281-998-6169, by Friday, November 5, 2010 at 5 p.m. so that proper arrangements can be made and necessary communications can be given out.

    This is going to be a great opportunity to appreciate the service provided to the College by the custodial personnel as well as a noble opportunity to appreciate the College for its efforts to its students and the community.

    Condolences 

    It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Jeff Wylin’s  grandmother, Jennie Mary Wylin.  She passed away on October 26th.

    Jennie Mary Wylin of Berville died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township at the age of 89 years.  Jennie was born June 19, 1921 in Delta, Ohio, the daughter of Edmond and Bertha (nee DeClercq) Bassier. On December 2, 1939, Jennie married Remi Albert Wylin at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Allenton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 883 Capac Rd., Allenton with the Rev. Fr. Suresh Rajaian, celebrant. Burial will follow in West Berlin Cemetery, Berlin Township.

    Jeff is a Testing Coordinator on South Campus.

    Condolences 

    Our deepest sympathy to announce the passing of retiree Dennis Sloan.  Mr. Sloan passed away on Friday, October 29th. Memorial Service is Sunday, November 7th , 3:30 PM at Grandview Funeral & Memorial, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena 281-478-6013.

    Dennis was a retiree from Maintenance Department on Central campus. He retired in January 1993 after 18 years of service.

    HR presents Halloween feast 

    The Human Resources department recently held its annual Halloween feast at the district office, where staff and administrators were treated to plates full of festive holiday treats.

    Families turn out for South campus Fall Fest 

    San Jacinto College South recently held its annual Fall Fest, complete with family-fun activities for the tiny trick-or-treaters who came out from surrounding communities. The Student Center parking lot featured a petting zoo, a pumpkin dive, a cakewalk, pony rides, and fire truck and ambulance tours. Inside, a Beetlejuice MC kept the party going alongside games, a costume contest, crafts, and plenty of food.

    BOO! Tiny goblins pay visit to South faculty and staff 

    The San Jacinto College South child care center recently brought out the goblins for a tour of the campus. The children visited faculty, staff and administrators, in which they gathered plenty of treats along the way.

    Way to go, Nancy Hutchinson! 

    Those little hugs that come after a productive and enthusiastic day at the San Jacinto College (SJC) South Children’s Center are what Nancy Hutchinson has cherished over her three decades of teaching.

    News from Ed Tech 

    Lisa Lacombe

    Please welcome Lisa Lacombe to her new position as Interim Director of Training and Professional Development for the College’s Education Technology department.

    Lisa will oversee the development and delivery of “synchronous and asynchronous” learning opportunities for faculty and staff on educational and office productivity tools and software, such as Blackboard, Microsoft Office Suite, and Banner. (You’ll have to ask Lisa to explain those IT terms “synchronous and asynchronous”).

    Lisa joined the San Jac family in June 2010 as the Senior Trainer in Training and Professional Development for Ed Tech.

    Before coming to San Jac, she was a Technology Training Director at Penn State. After moving back to Houston last October, she started working as VP-Elect of IT for the American Society for Training & Development Houston chapter.
