SJC hosts Texas Higher Education IR/IT Forum

On Thursday, July 22, 2010, San Jacinto College hosted the Texas Higher Education IR/IT  Forum. What started as a small event (anticipation of about 12 guests) turned into a large event with more than 50 people in  attendance from several two- and four-year institutions, as well as the Texas Higher Education  Coordinating Board (THECB).

This large response shows the interest and  need for understanding data and consistency in reporting to help higher  education institutions make better decisions. Several participants  representing information technology (IT) and institutional  research (IR) departments commented on the need for these two reporting  departments to collaborate. Representatives from human resources, continuing education, and financial aid also attended, and the groups came together to share best  practices for this business intelligence tool. Other institutions represented include Texas  A&M University – Kingsville, Tarleton State University, Steven F.  Austin University, and Houston Community College.

Congratulations to  our own IT and aSPIRE offices who collaborated to bring this conference to our college,  and facilitate the exchange of ideas on higher education reporting to  fruition.
