Baseball team celebrates successful season

The baseball team won the regional championship, and the national runner-up trophy.

The North campus baseball team recently returned home to a celebration reception, held in the North campus student center.

The team recently put an exclamation point on a very successful 2010 season by emerging as the national runner-up at the JUCO World Series, held in Grand Junction, Colorado.

At the welcome home celebration, Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer, North campus President Dr. Allatia Harris, and North campus Athletic Director Shawn Silman congratulated the players and staff — Head Coach Tom Arrington, assistant coaches Kory Koehler, Jason Krug, DJ Wilson, and Jimmy Durham; and athletic trainer Travis Greenway — for their accomplishments.

Coach Arrington, who earned the Region XIV South Conference coach of the year honors for the seventh time in his 10 years at the helm of the San Jac program, congratulated the players and coaches and expressed his sincere appreciation for their dedication and teamwork throughout the long, demanding season.

The team finished the regular season as the Region XIV South Zone champions, and then emerged as the undefeated champions of the Region XIV tournament, played in mid-May in Mount Pleasant.

They then traveled to Grand Junction as the top seed in the JUCO World Series, and as the top ranked team in the nation. The team came very close to bringing home a national title, losing by 1 run in the championship game.

Congratulations to the San Jac baseball team, and to the coaching staff for a truly amazing season, and thanks to the faithful fans who support the College’s top-notch baseball program.
