    Good times

North campus students, employees, and family members gathered recently to celebrate the opening of a new Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant, located near the campus in the North Channel area. The special invitation-only, pre-grand-opening party (featuring free food and soft drinks) was organized by Charlotte Jackson, North campus’ event coordinator “extraordinaire.” There was plenty of fun, food, and fellowship and a good time was had by all!

Astronomer Dr. David Levy visits with San Jacinto College South

San Jacinto College South recently enjoyed a lecture by astronomer Dr. David Levy.

Levy shared his experience as a young boy interested in the night sky and how his love for astronomy endured throughout his years as an adolescent and well into his years in college, resulting in a career in astronomy. He discussed finding the first of his 22 comet discoveries and finding the Shoemaker-Levy 9, a comet that collided with Jupiter in 1994. The Emmy winning astronomer also incorporated the arts into his presentation, describing how some of the earliest English literature pieces explain the mysteries sighted in the night sky.

Levy’s visit was sponsored by the College’s Lyceum Committee, an organization that invites nationally renowned speakers to SJC to help facilitate the educational process and build awareness concerning social or global subject matters.
