    Meet the H1N1 flu crew

The San Jacinto College nursing department staff and senior nursing students administered free H1N1 flu shots to employees and students this week at the North, South and Central campus. The College’s very own Ginger Lambert and Hollie Fulsom were joined by retired vice chancellor of Human Resources, James Fowler, to greet and prescreen those who wished to receive a vaccine.

Shelley Rinehart puts on a brave face as she receives her H1N1 flu shot at the South campus.

    North campus hosts GED graduation

    Ron Hopkins

Ron Hopkins, North campus coordinator of assessment services, and the GED chief examiner for the San Jacinto College District, did an outstanding job as host of the recent ceremony for students who earned their General Education Development (GED) certificates through San Jacinto College.

All three San Jacinto College campuses administer the five required GED tests, and the graduation ceremony was conducted at the North campus.

A multi-media presentation featured celebrities who earned GED credentials, including John Travolta, Prince (the musician), and Ringo Starr.

After the presentation Hopkins noted that successful rapper Dwayne Michael Carter (aka Lil Wayne) earned a GED certificate at San Jacinto College North.

    Allatia Harris

Keynote speaker Dr. Allatia Harris, president of the North campus, congratulated the graduates for their achievements. “You took steps to complete something that really matters, and now new opportunities are available to you,” she commented. “Earning your GED will open doors that have previously been closed. Congratulations on being a winner and a completer, but this is only a beginning. Tomorrow you can wake up and determine what you are going to do.”

Kudos to Hopkins and others who handle GED responsibilities for San Jacinto College, including Carita Hayes and Ana Flores.
