Women’s basketball to be in the ‘Pink Zone’ Feb. 24 vs. Angelina College

Calling all ladies (and guys)! The San Jacinto College women’s basketball team is participating in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone again this year. The Pink Zone s a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, and in local communities. You can participate, too! Just wear pink to the game on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m., and support the team as they raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.

The first 100 fans to the game will receive a free T-shirt. Donations will be accepted during the game, with proceeds going towards breast cancer research and awareness. And, a portion of the proceeds from the concession stand will also be donated to breast cancer research! Coaches and players from both teams will don pink during the game in support of the cause.

In the last two years, San Jac has raised over $1,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Houston affiliate. In just its third year in 2009, the WBCA’s Pink Zone initiative had 1,600 participating teams, reached more than 912,000 fans nationwide, and raised over $1.3 million for breast cancer awareness and research. The initiative began in 2007 with just 120 participating schools and teams.

So, put on that pink, scour your couches and car floors for any loose change, and come out to the women’s basketball game on Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. to support the team and breast cancer research and awareness!!

College Community Day activities will take place on the Central campus. The College-wide meeting begins ta 9 a.m. in Slocomb Auditorium. However, before you head to Slocomb, you will need to check in at the appropriate designated location, beginning at 8:15 a.m.

Please note that check in locations are split by the alphabet. These stations will not only serve as the distribution point for morning check in to get name tags, agenda packets and breakfast; but they will also be where you will pick up your lunch.

The check in locations designated by last name are as follows:

    A-E: Kaleidoscope Room / ILC

    F-L: Music Building

    M-R: Health Science Building

    S-Z: Newton Student Center

After the morning session, a box lunch will be provided for attendees. Just go back to your designated check in location, pick up your lunch, and find a place on campus to relax. The afternoon activities will begin at 1:15 p.m. Each attendee will be assigned to a focus group. The location of your focus group will be found in your agenda packet. At 3:30 p.m., we’ll gather back in Slocomb Auditorium for the wrap-up session.

Please note that we will be at the seating capacity in Slocomb. You will need to plan that you will be sitting next to someone and that all rows and seats will be occupied. As you fill in the auditorium, please go to the center of the aisle and don’t leave any empty seats.

    See you on Tuesday!
