Amado Peña visits South campus

Amado Peña, the Artisan of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona, recently visited the SJC South campus to reflect upon his 30 years of creating art that unveils the life and culture of Native Americans across the Southwest.

The artist discussed the evolution of his work with SJC art professor Mark Schatz during three Inside the Artist’s Studio sessions and a question and answer session. Peña also had lunch with Honor students and a dinner with staff, faculty and administrators.

A native of Laredo, Peña is well regarded for his artwork toward increasing the public’s knowledge and interest in the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the Native Americans who survive by living in harmony with an adversarial, untamed environment. His artwork can be seen at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
