San Jacinto College Dean for College Preparatory Dr. Rebecca Goosen recently achieved the status of senior fellow with the American Leadership Forum (ALF) after completing a year of meetings, seminars, and team-building retreats designed to improve leadership skills.

“Members participate in an intense year-long program that fosters learning and trust among experienced leaders,” commented Goosen. “The result is a unique forum where barriers between people are removed, issues are openly discussed, and solutions emerge that benefit the entire community.” The year’s ALF agenda included monthly meetings, several retreats, and was highlighted by a wilderness experience. “That involved repelling off a rock cliff and getting a group of sea-level Houstonians to 6,500 foot evaluation as one group,” she remarked. At the conclusion, participants become ALF Senior Fellows.

The national ALF organization brings together leaders from various sectors to develop leadership skills and to strengthen their commitment to work together on public issues. In the spring of 2010, ALF will sponsor an education convocation and Goosen will take part in a group project. “We will put together public service announcements that will inform the public about the importance of college readiness,” she said.
