Welcome, Dr. Valschkia Dabney!

Welcome, Dr. Valschkia Dabney, to San Jacinto College! Dabney has been named the director of Educational Technology Training & Professional Development Department. In this role, she will provide leadership for the technology training at the College.

She will also work closely with the Educational Technology Leadership Team and the Human Resources Department, to implement the College’s Success Factors Learning Management System. This new system will replace the current Avatar System used by the College.

Prior to accepting her new position at San Jacinto College, Dabney served as the Director of the P-16 Initiatives at Blinn College and has vested more than 18 years in promoting student success in both public and private educational institutions. Throughout her career, she has also taught at a community college and facilitated training and professional development programs for a statewide teacher and administrator professional development program supported by the Gulf Coast Education That Works Tech Prep Consortium, Texas Education Agency and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Dabney has also served on a number of committees and boards to support organizational change and improve collaboration among K-12 and higher educational institutions including the Brazos Valley Council of Governments – Education in Texas Committee, the Houston Northwest Chamber – Education Committee and the Educational Service Center Region VI – Career and Technology Administrators’ Committee.

She has also presented at regional, state and national conferences including the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Council on Closing the Gaps, the Texas A&M University Council on Diversity, and the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence.

Dabney holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration – Community College Leadership from The University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA with a concentration in project management and global marketing from the University of Phoenix-Houston Northwest Campus. Additionally, she is an alumnus and former employee of San Jacinto College, having completed the 2+2 bachelor’s degree program, which was supported through a partnership between San Jacinto College and the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

“During my time at San Jacinto College, I wore many hats I was a full-time employee, a part-time student, a wife and mother of three children,” said Dabney. “San Jacinto College provided a place for me and my family to enjoy the student-centered activities and programs, designed to promote student success.”

Dabney attributes her ability to achieve her academic and personal goals to the concern and commitment demonstrated by the college administrators, faculty, advisors, counselors and co-workers who inspired her to continue and pursue her education. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her three children Emitzschkia, Ashford, and Austen. Emitzschkia earned her master’s degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio and is now teaching English in Madrid, Spain.  Ashford is an orchestra musician and a second-year student at Lone Star College – University Park. Austen is a high school senior and the lead drum major at Klein Forest High School.
