Jahmal Clemons flies high with the Blue Angels

San Jacinto College social media coordinator Jahmal Clemons was recently given the opportunity of a lifetime. He was chosen by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as a 2018 Key Influencer and extended the opportunity to fly with the elite flight exhibition team Wednesday, Oct. 17.

“I’m honored to be chosen for this opportunity,” Clemons said. “I’m also excited about the feeling of going fast in the air and feeling no boundaries as you’re zooming through.”

Clemons was nominated by Teri Crawford, vice chancellor, of marketing, public relations and government affairs at the San Jacinto College because of his contributions to the community.

“Jahmal works hard not only at the College, but also in the community,” Crawford said. “His commitment to student success as well as his willingness to donate his time and talents to those around him, made his nomination an easy choice.”

As an employee of San Jacinto College, Clemons donates his time by serving as a mentor in the Men of Honor/Women of Integrity program, a retention effort tasked with increasing transfer rates among Hispanic students and students of color and was recognized as an Outstanding Mentor by the program for the past two years.

Clemons also works with the Woods Project, an organization that provides area high school students weekend camping trips to local parks and serves as an Adult Learning Center volunteer in Pearland, Texas, where he tutors more than 30 students in mathematics and grammar who are in the process of obtaining their high school diploma.

As a Blue Angels’ Key Influencer, Clemons also received a signed commemorative print from the Blue Angels team who will be performing at the Wings Over Houston airshow Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21.
