Congratulations to the SJC grounds-utility crew for Maintenance Team of the Quarter award!

Congratulations to San Jacinto College facilities department’s grounds-utility crew for receiving the Maintenance Team of the Quarter award in September! You might be wondering exactly what a grounds-utility person does for the College.  Well, their job includes many challenging tasks required to keep the College facilities operational and in safe and attractive condition. They handle office moves, equipment relocation, function setups, maintain ceilings and building roofs, install and maintain facilities outdoor equipment, assist other department craft personnel – and almost anything else that doesn’t fit a job description.

While the entire department was extremely busy this summer preparing our facilities for the fall semester, Adam Garber (supervisor), Thaddeus King, Victor Guerrero, and Frank Valdez were particularly busy in August. At Central Campus, the group processed 60 moves. At North and South campuses, there were an additional 30 moves completed. In addition to the furniture and box shuffles that come with moves, the crew also handled all their usual pre-semester sidewalk and building pressure washing, function setups and outdoor equipment maintenance.

So, the next time you see these gentlemen working in your area, give them a wave and offer a thank you. We’re lucky to have them here at San Jacinto College!
