Farewell SJC Avatar LMS: The new SJC Spark Learning Portal is here.

SanJac_artwork_13_Spark_72San Jacinto College is in the process of implementing a new Learning Management System (LMS) to replace the existing SJC Avatar LMS.  The go-live date for the new Spark Learning Portal is Monday, 1 July 2013.

Beginning today, Monday, 24 June 2013, the Avatar system will no longer be available to SJC employees.  During this week existing training data will be transferred from Avatar into Spark.  If you have registered for a course that is offered from 24 June through 8 July in Avatar, your attendance will be recorded by the training facilitator on a roster, and the information uploaded into Spark.

On Monday, 1 July 2013, Spark will be accessible to both full- and part-time employees and will provide you with a simplified user-interface that integrates with the current SJC Performance Management System in Success Factors. The new Spark Learning Portal will serve as a “one-stop shop” for all training and professional development training programs offered within the College, including the EdTech Training Department, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), and Human Resources Department.  What’s great about the new process is your learning history will be stored in the Spark, and your training and professional development activities will also be tied to your performance management profile.

Introductory training demonstrations for all full- and part-time SJC staff will begin Tuesday, 2 July 2013.  Pre-registration is not required.  Additional introductory training demonstrations for returning SJC faculty will be available starting Monday, 19 August 2013.  A link to the training schedule for the demonstrations sessions is available online at http://stufiles.sanjac.edu/EdTech/SPARK/SFLMS_TrainingSchedules/Spark_LMS_TrainingSchedule_July2013.pdf.

In the introductory demonstration sessions, you will review the step-by-step process of logging into the new system, retrieving a forgotten username or password, and registering for a class. You will also learn how to identify key areas within the Spark user-interface, including how to locate your individual learning history files, which will be imported from Avatar.

The SJC training and professional development programs will now include all SJC employees, and will play a vital role in our ability to move toward a one-college, consistent approach to achieving success for our employees and students.  New training programs and initiatives will be implemented in the next academic year, so check the link above for dates.  All employees need to attend one of the brief training demonstrations to ensure that you are able to access current and future training sessions in the new Spark Learning Portal.
