EnergyVenture summer camps for seventh, eighth and ninth-grade students are being held at all three San Jacinto College campuses, with emphasis on career opportunities in the energy industry.
Camp sessions are held Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. There are still openings for the following camps: July 6-10, July 13-17 and July 20-24.

“This is a workforce initiative to fill the pipeline of workers needed in years to come for local energy companies,” commented Linda Drobnich, business development manager for San Jacinto College’s Continuing and Professional Development division.

The summer camps are designed for young people to learn while having fun. “They perform lab experiments related to energy topics, win prizes for team efforts, take a tour of an energy-related production facility, and interview recent college graduates who are working in the energy field,” said Sherry Jones, CPD’s executive director.

The concept for the camp developed from a state-sponsored Cluster Initiative Report and research performed by the East Harris County Manufacturing Association. The study indicated many young people do not know about the high-pay jobs that are available in the energy industry.

Full scholarships (a $330 value) are available for a limited number of students wanting to attend the July camps. For information and to apply for a scholarship, please call 281-478-2772. Shell and ExxonMobil are key corporate sponsors of the summer camps.
