    90-year-old Clara gets royal treatment

Friends, relatives, and co-workers gathered on July 28, 2016 to celebrate with longtime employee Clara Hollaway, who is now 90 years young !!!

Appropriately, the birthday celebration had a queen theme, and Clara looked stunning with her royal crown.

Congratulations Clara! Your work ethic, zest for life, and friendliness are truly an inspiration.

How wonderful to have such a good friend and coworker for 24 years here at SJCN! I was so honored to say the invocation inspired by Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebration prayers. 🙂

It is hard to believe that the spring semester is coming to a close. I have attached the San Jacinto College Summer Literacy Institute (SLI) details with the most current Call to Conference.  The field of Developmental Education is evolving, and SLI will address the many ways collaboration in and outside of the college is becoming an important conversation in how we accelerate students.  Doing that while providing students with productive academic experiences that support their academic and career goals has become a hot topic in Dev Ed. Tune in on Sunday, May 15 at 12:30 to Channel 13’s popular Viva Houston show to see Dinorah Ramos, North Campus career and employment services coordinator, as she talks about career assessments and other resources that the College provides to students.

Dinorah is shown, center, at the Channel 13 studios along with Viva Houston host Erik Barajas (a San Jacinto College alumnus), and Margie Pena, who represents Neighborhood Centers Inc., a community partner of San Jacinto College.

Students, faculty, staff give senior group royal treatment

    Jobe Group

Senior citizens from Pasadena’s Madison Jobe Senior Center recently dropped by for “pampering” at Central Campus. Culinary arts students prepared lunch for them and cosmetology students provided free hair styling.

Kudos to all the Central Campus people who helped to make the event a huge success, including Kay Richardson, Consumer Services Department Chair; David Vanover, Interior Design Program Director; Ernest Becerra, Culinary Arts Program Director; Marsha Smith, Cosmetology Adjunct Instructor; and Kathy Burris, Consumer Services Senior Administrative Assistant.
