Clare Iannelli named North campus Dean of Student Development

    Clare Iannelli

Congratulations to Clare Iannelli, who was recently named Dean of Student Development at the North campus.

Clare’s trademark is her enthusiasm for San Jacinto College and her job. “What sets SJC apart is that we take the extra step, and go the extra mile in our service to students,” she commented. “There is nothing more gratifying than hearing students say they love the service they receive, and that they feel understood and prepared to complete their educational goals. We exist for the students, and they are why we do what we do every day.”

Clare began working for the College as a counselor at the North campus in 2001. In 2006 she was promoted to lead counselor. In July 2009 she was selected Interim Dean of Student Development for the North campus. (More …)

    Baseball team celebrates successful season

The baseball team won the regional championship, and the national runner-up trophy.

The North campus baseball team recently returned home to a celebration reception, held in the North campus student center.

The team recently put an exclamation point on a very successful 2010 season by emerging as the national runner-up at the JUCO World Series, held in Grand Junction, Colorado.

At the welcome home celebration, Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer, North campus President Dr. Allatia Harris, and North campus Athletic Director Shawn Silman congratulated the players and staff — Head Coach Tom Arrington, assistant coaches Kory Koehler, Jason Krug, DJ Wilson, and Jimmy Durham; and athletic trainer Travis Greenway — for their accomplishments.

Coach Arrington, who earned the Region XIV South Conference coach of the year honors for the seventh time in his 10 years at the helm of the San Jac program, congratulated the players and coaches and expressed his sincere appreciation for their dedication and teamwork throughout the long, demanding season.

The team finished the regular season as the Region XIV South Zone champions, and then emerged as the undefeated champions of the Region XIV tournament, played in mid-May in Mount Pleasant.

They then traveled to Grand Junction as the top seed in the JUCO World Series, and as the top ranked team in the nation. The team came very close to bringing home a national title, losing by 1 run in the championship game.

Congratulations to the San Jac baseball team, and to the coaching staff for a truly amazing season, and thanks to the faithful fans who support the College’s top-notch baseball program.

National journal publishes article written by North campus employees

    A. Jones

    J. Jones

Kudos to the husband-wife team of Adriana and Jeremy Jones, North campus counselors who authored a very informative and timely article that has been published by the National Forum of Multicultural Issues journal.

Their article, titled “Breaking Barriers for Multiracial Students,” deals with barriers multiracial students face during their college years and interventions higher education institutions can follow to break the barriers. The article concludes by stating that: “student affairs counselors can assist in spreading the awareness of multiracial issues in their college community. It is necessary for multiracial students to embrace diversity in their social development.”

Adriana Jones serves as interim student success counselor at the North campus, and Jeremy Jones is the North campus shared counselor who serves Channelview High School.

“To write the article, we used our background in working with a wide range of students, and research we have conducted,” commented Adriana Jones.
