This was a remarkable event, very well planned by the MADD Walk Committee. One of the members of the North Channel Area Chamber served with that group and invited me out. The one thing that I heard from so many of the walkers and the vendors was how much they appreciated the willingness of Marina Keith to work with the community to make this event a success. Way to go Marina!

    As seen on TV

Tune in on Sunday, May 15 at 12:30 to Channel 13’s popular Viva Houston show to see Dinorah Ramos, North Campus career and employment services coordinator, as she talks about career assessments and other resources that the College provides to students.

Dinorah is shown, center, at the Channel 13 studios along with Viva Houston host Erik Barajas (a San Jacinto College alumnus), and Margie Pena, who represents Neighborhood Centers Inc., a community partner of San Jacinto College.

Congratulations to Dinorah, who was outstanding as an ambassador for San Jacinto College.

    As seen on TV

The Pasadena Municipal Channel produced a video of a group of senior citizens from Pasadena’s Madison Jobe Senior Center, who recently dropped by for “pampering” at Central Campus. Culinary arts students prepared lunch for them and cosmetology students provided free hair styling.

Thanks to the Central Campus people who helped to make the visit successful, including Kay Richardson, Consumer Services Department Chair; David Vanover, Interior Design Program Director; Ernest Becerra, Culinary Arts Program Director; Marsha Smith, Cosmetology Adjunct Instructor; and Kathy Burris, Consumer Services Senior Administrative Assistant.

    Photography Challenge: Back to School

    Back-to-school photo sample.

    Back-to-school photo sample.

The San Jacinto College Employee Photography Club is kicking off the year with a photography challenge: Back to School.  Take a photo of a back-to-school scene. The photo should be representative of school in some manner.  Your back-to-school scene may be a person, or a group, or even just school-related items.  It doesn’t have to be at San Jac although we love our SJC pics!  For an additional challenge, use the depth of field in your photo to focus on one area while gently blurring elements in front of and/or behind the focal point.

To participate, simply bring your photo on a USB drive with you to the first photography club meeting on September 18 @ 11:30am in the Central Campus ILC, room 110.  You may also contact Chris Duke (chris.duke@sjcd.edu) to request access to the club website and upload your photo to the club site or share it via Flickr.

The San Jacinto College Employee Photography club works to create a collaborative learning community of photographers among college employees and their families. All San Jac employees, retirees, spouses, and dependents are invited to participate in Club meetings and activities.  Individual club employee members are responsible, in collaboration with their leader, for maintaining their personal work schedules in relation to club activities and any wellness release time. Minor dependents must be accompanied by the college employee at all club activities.
