Campus Carry Gun Exclusion Zone Request Form

As you are aware, Texas Senate Bill 11, also known as the Campus Carry law, went into effect for all community colleges in Texas, including San Jacinto College, on August 1, 2017. The law, passed by Texas legislators and signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott during the 84th Legislative Session, requires the San Jacinto College Board of Trustees to adopt a policy that does not generally prohibit license to carry holders from carrying a concealed weapon on campus, but does allow for certain areas or activities of the College to be exclusion zones where no concealed carry is allowed. Policy III.3000A, Campus Carry was adopted by the San Jacinto College Board of Trustees on June 5, 2017 to comply with the Texas law.

Areas of the four San Jacinto College campuses that have been identified as exclusion zones are clearly marked with signage indicating the exclusion zone. It is the responsibility of license holders to carry their handguns on or about their person at all times and to ensure they are complying with the law and College policy as it pertains to exclusion zones on campus. San Jacinto College will not provide storage for handguns.

Employees may request a permanent or temporary exclusion zone, or the removal of permanent exclusion zone signage, by logging in to their SOS account, clicking on the “My Work” tab, and completing the “Campus Carry Gun Exclusion Zone Request” form.

The open carrying of any weapon on any Texas college or university campus, including San Jacinto College, is strictly prohibited. If you see an individual openly carrying or displaying a firearm on any San Jacinto College campus or property, please contact the San Jacinto College Police Department at extension 5555 from a campus phone, or 281-476-9128.

Please visit San Jacinto College Campus Carry website to find a link to the College policy as well as more information about the law. Should you have questions that the website does not answer, please contact the San Jacinto College Police Department.
