Vanessa Gonzales and Kevin Castillo were outstanding representatives of the College during a recent taped session of Viva Houston, a popular KTRK Channel 13 TV program. The live broadcast is scheduled to air on Sunday, June 9 at 11:30 a.m.

Vanessa is the newly elected president of the North Campus Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and Kevin served as the South Campus PTK president for the 2012-2013 academic year (and was named the South Campus Male Student of the Year).

The two honor society officers personify a “new generation” of Latino students who value education. They talked about how San Jacinto College has helped them to find direction and develop academically and socially. Vanessa’s field of study is civil engineering, while Kevin will soon earn a computer science degree from San Jacinto College.

Kudos to the College’s three PTK faculty advisors – Tanya Madrigal, Ryan Newman, and Elizabeth McKinley – for helping to mentor and motivate high-achieving students who participate in the honor society chapters at all three campuses.
