    Baseball Play Pink Thank You

Playpink2013logo_72Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Fourth Annual Play Pink Game and fundraising event for Angel Flight South Central. Despite the rain on Saturday, we raised more money than any previous year… more than $4,500 to support a great cause and charitable organization. That says so much about the caring nature and generosity of San Jacinto College, the community and the baseball program. We had people from all campuses help or donate and it was by all means a group effort to make this event such a success this season. We could not have done it without you!

Here are some highlights from the event with special recognition:

    • Over $4,500 was raised to bring the total amount of Play Pink contributions since 2010 to almost $13,000.
    • San Jac beat Blinn two of three games in the conference series.
    • The Chairman of the Board for Angel Flight South Central, David Levine, was in attendance and presented the baseball program with a special crystal plaque of appreciation.
    • Angel Flight pilot Jim Gardner and driver Robin Lostak were in attendance.
    • Cloverleaf Elementary School students took the field with the Gators for the National Anthem.  The students competed in an A.R. reading contest for the honor.
    • Cloverleaf Elementary School PTA donated $500 to the event.
    • The North Shore Rotary donated $1,000 to the event.
    • Chevron Phillips Chemical Company donated $250 to the event.
    • Former San Jac Gators and MLB players Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Brandon Belt, Lucas Luetge and Brandon Hicks all donated items to the silent auction.
    • San Jacinto College North student Gloria Duran sang the National Anthem.
    • Thank you to Terry and Marcy Johnson for their work with the BBQ donation and service.
    • Thank you to the W.D. Ley YMCA for their support and contributions.
    • Thank you to Dr. Allatia Harris for her attendance, support and contributions.

Take me out to the ball game

The baseball team hosted their home opener at John Ray Harrison Field on the North Campus on Saturday, Jan. 28 on a pleasant, sunny day.

A large crowd was on hand to witness the home team sweep a double-header against conference rivals Wharton Junior College.

North Campus President Dr. Allatia Harris threw a strike for the ceremonial first pitch to get the action started, and she also posed for photos with the coaching staff, including DJ Wilson, Jimmy Durham, Head Coach Tom Arrington, Kory Koehler, and Jason Krug.

The SJC baseball program is one of the most successful collegiate athletic programs in the nation, holding national records for the most JUCO World Series appearances, and the most JUCO World Series wins.
