Dixon Bennett receives appreciation award

San Jacinto College South Campus art professor Dixon Bennett was recently presented with an award of appreciation from the campus’ fine arts department.

During the opening reception of his current campus faculty art exhibition, Sediment, fellow art professor Jeff McGee surprised Bennett with a hand-crafted award he created as a token of appreciation from the department for all of the effort and encouragement he has given students over the years. The inscription read, “Dixon Bennett in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to creativity in higher education.”

“I’m definitely honored to receive such a beautiful award from our department,” said Bennett. “Jeff put a lot of thought and creativity into this beautiful piece. Student success always comes first, so it’s good to know that we’re making a difference.”

Bennett’s exhibition, Sediment, is on display now through Nov. 16 in the art gallery room in the Marie Spence Flickinger Fine Arts Center located on the South Campus at 13735 Beamer Road in Houston. For more information on San Jacinto College fine arts, visit arts.sanjac.edu.
