Kudos to Dr. Richard Bailey for sharing his love for reading and learning with little ones at the North Campus Children’s Center & Lab School.

Dr. Bailey recently read and interacted with children at the center who attend through Harris County Department of Education Head Start.

The pilot reading project is called Scholastic REAL (Read Excel Achieve Lead), and it is designed to deepen literacy and to instill a love of reading in children through mentors who read aloud and talk to the children. Activities related to the book are done in the classroom before and after the mentor reads the book.

“Dr. Bailey was chosen due to his position at the College, and his interest in the Children’s Center/Lab School,” commented Kathy Greenway, director of the center.

The Head Start teacher at the center is Elizabeth Bell, and another involved in the program is Marisa Murillo.
