Social Media Privacy Settings

If your social media account is public, then everyone and anyone can see what you are posting and it will show up in an Internet search.  If you are ok with a public profile, then you must be cautious of what you share.  Here’s how you can change your privacy settings on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Facebook
Go to Privacy Settings on your profile. Click edit under “Who can see my stuff?” If you only want your Facebook friends to see your posts, choose Friends.  This is what we recommend.

Instagram
Click on “Edit Your Profile.” At the bottom, you have an option to make your posts private. This allows you to approve anyone who has requested to follow you. Only those who you have approved can see your posts. If you are a private user, the hashtags you use in your photos are not searchable.

Twitter
Go to your settings. Choose “Security and Privacy” on the left. If you decide to protect your tweets, anyone who wants to follow you will have to be approved by you. Only your followers will see your tweets.
