Mark Johnson serves as guest panelist about OER at SXSWedu

Mark Johnson, San Jacinto College North Campus Dean of Business and Technology and Open Educational Resource (OER) Degree Project Director, recently attended SXSWedu in Austin to participate as a panelist in the OER debate session, “A Debate on ‘Open’ Educational Resources: Trendy? Sure, But Are They Viable for the Long Haul?” hosted by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The debate featured publishers and leaders of the open-resources community on the pros and cons of this growing movement. The discussion focused on asking how the approach aims to save students money and whether that comes at some educational cost.
