    90-year-old Clara gets royal treatment 

    Friends, relatives, and co-workers gathered on July 28, 2016 to celebrate with longtime employee Clara Hollaway, who is now 90 years young !!!

    Appropriately, the birthday celebration had a queen theme, and Clara looked stunning with her royal crown.

    Congratulations Clara! Your work ethic, zest for life, and friendliness are truly an inspiration.

    Purchasing Tidbits – End of Fiscal Year Information

    Here is your latest edition of Purchasing Tidbits.  Please contact Contracts & Purchasing Services with any questions at contracts.purchasing@sjcd.edu or x6117.

     The end of FISCAL YEAR 15-16 is quickly approaching and it is important to have all current year transactions finalized in a timely manner.

     Just a few helpful hints:

    1. All Fy15-16 requisitions must be entered and approved by close of business on Friday, August 26th and all goods and services must be received or completed by August 31st
    2. Last day for fy 15-16 payment is Tuesday, September 27, 2016

    a.  All vendor invoices must be received in AP no later than September 26, 2016

    b.  All direct pay invoices must be approved & all original travel documents must be received in AP no later than September 27, 2016

    c. Goods & services must be received by August 31, 2016 and a receiver must be created in Banner.

    3.  Direct pays created after august 31, 2016 for FY 15-16 please use the following dates:

    a. Invoice date: 08/31/16

    b. Transaction date: 08/31/16

    c. Payment date: 08/31/16

    Very importantthese dates will determine payment in FY 15-16

    4.  Originators:

    A.  You can check the approval queue by clicking on the queue button in FOAUAPP.

    B.  You can email or call the appropriate approving authority to complete the approval process.

    Airbag recall information

    San Jacinto College is partnering with the City of Houston to inform our students and staff about an airbag recall. More than 60 million vehicle are under recall due to a dangerous defect that causes the device that inflates the airbag to explode and spray shrapnel toward the head and neck of the vehicle’s occupants.     Summer Enrollment Lab Sessions 

    Good Afternoon,

    Lab sessions for Summer Enrollment will begin Monday, July 18.  Please plan on attending if you need assistance in making changes or additions to any of your benefits.

    Important Reminders:

    • Statements were recently mailed by ERS to each employee’s home. Please bring your ERS Benefits Statement with you when you attend the campus lab session.
    • If you will be adding new dependents, you will need to provide their social security number and date of birth.
    • You are REQUIRED to be registered with ERS Online before making changes to your benefits during Summer Enrollment. (see attached document: ERS Website Instructions)
      • Once you have logged into ERS and have made benefit elections or changes, ERS will send you a confirmation statement by e-mail or regular mail. Please review this confirmation to verify that you have elected the correct benefits. If you notice a benefit is incorrect, please contact ERS or the HR-Benefits office immediately.
      • The rates on the ERS website and your statement are NOT the rates San Jacinto College employees pay for benefits. Please review the attached insurance premium rate sheet when electing or changing benefits.
      • Summer Enrollment Benefit changes will be effective on September 1, 2016. If you have Qualifying Life Event changes during the Summer Enrollment period, please contact the HR-Benefits office for assistance.

     

    The San Jacinto College HR-Benefits Staff will be available to assist you with Summer Enrollment at the dates and times listed below:

    It’s hot outside but you knew that already… 

    Heat Safety

    It’s hot outside (but you knew that already!). Hot and humid weather is expected to continue this week, with increasing concerns for elevated temperatures that could lead to heat illness. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the entire Southeast Texas region through Tuesday evening. Please use extreme caution if you are out and about. (More …)

    Cornerstone Training Sessions 

    San Jacinto College Employees,

    Have you heard that Cornerstone is replacing SuccessFactors and SOAR? We are excited to be launching Cornerstone this Fall, and we want you to come experience the new system.

    Please register for the appropriate training listed below via SuccessFactors SPARK Learning. It is especially important that leaders pre-register so that your login information can be created prior to your session.

    HRCS 1001 – Cornerstone System Overview for Leaders

    Join us as we provide an overview of the Cornerstone system for leaders. You will get a preview of the Learning and Performance Management modules where we demonstrate how to access training content and build your KPIs. You will also get hands-on experience in the Recruitment module as we provide step-by-step guidance during a learn at your own pace open lab session. You will use the system to move through the hiring process and complete activities such as requesting a requisition, approving a requisition to be posted, screening and interviewing applicants, and hiring a new employee.

    (If you are a leader attending a leader session, you do not need to attend an employee session.)

    English profs enjoy a ‘storybook’ wedding 

    Barbara Brown, Central Campus English department chair, provides the following account of a recent interesting event —

    “I don’t think this has ever happened in the history of the Central Campus English Department — two of our full-time English professors have gotten married. Julie Groesch joined the department in 2010, and Robb Flynn joined the department in 2012. Their wedding was May 28.

    There are 3 related photos.  One is from the May 6 shower the Central English Department threw for them, and the other two are from the wedding reception.  As only English profs would do, they had their wedding caked designed to represent their favorite novels.”

    Congratulations to the newlyweds, and good luck with their “storybook” wedding, and may they live happily ever after !!!
