ITS strives to ensure adequate computing technologies are available for all San Jacinto College students and employees. Students may utilize College computers at a variety of labs on each campus, while employees are assigned computer equipment for daily use.In addition, ITS supports BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiatives and welcomes the use of personally-owned equipment on each College campus. ITS also provides a variety of virtual tools so that students and employees may access College resources from remote locations when needed.

Our Service Levels

ITS provides full support for all College-owned computer equipment and peripherals; including desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. Limited support is provided for personally-owned equipment as it pertains to connection of College services.

Upon request, ITS will issue one desktop computer per full-time staff member and one laptop computer (with docking station) per full-time faculty member. Necessary peripherals (such as keyboard, mouse, and monitors) are provided. In addition, cabling for audio/video connections in classrooms are provided with laptops.

ITS typically replaces assigned computers on a three to five year basis; desktops are replaced every five years while laptops are replaced every three years. This process may vary on a case by case basis and ITS reserves the right to modify replacement standards as needed.

Our Standards

San Jacinto College students and employees may take advantage of a wide array of technologies available for College events and coursework. The table below provides information on computer usage and access standards by user role.

BYOD Support: ITS understands that students and employees use personal technologies for remote or mobile access to College resources and supports BOYD (Bring Your Own Device) initiatives. Support is currently provided for personally-owned devices as it pertains to connection to available College resources; such as wireless or Virtual Desktop access. Students Employees Contractors
Computer Labs & Open labs:
All students may utilize computer equipment, including printer access, in any available campus Open Lab or computer labs to complete College coursework. Administrative rights are not permitted on lab machines and students are required to adhere to established lab usage rules.

College-Issued Equipment:
College-owned computers are typically not assigned to students; however, exceptions may be made under certain circumstances (such as laptop use by hearing-impaired students utilizing remote CART services).

VDIs:
Provides secured access to a virtual desktop and software applications. VDIs are available to all College employees and can be accessed from inside or outside the College. Administrative rights are not provided on assigned VDIs.College-Issued Equipment:

  • Full-Time Faculty: Standard issued is one laptop (with docking station and peripherals) for each employee.
  • Full-Time Staff: Standard issued is one desktop computer, with peripherals, for each employee.
  • Adjunct Faculty: College-owned equipment is not assigned; however laptops are available for checkout through Campus Services. All laptops come with necessary cables for audio/video connections in classrooms.
VDIs:
Provides secured access to a virtual desktop and software applications. VDIs are available to all College employees and can be accessed from inside or outside the College. Administrative rights are not provided on assigned VDIs.College-Issued Equipment:
