San Jacinto College is implementing a new feature that will make emails from external senders easier to recognize. Starting Friday, August 17, 2018 at 5 pm, a message will be added to the subject and the body of all incoming external senders.
The subject will start off with the words “EXTERNAL” followed by the subject of the email. The message in the body of the email will read: “CAUTION: This email originated from outside the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you validate the sender and know the content is safe. Please forward this email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you believe this email is suspicious”. Please see the image below for a copy of what this email will look like.
Legitimate emails from the College will not contain this disclaimer. Be wary of any emails that appear to come from the College but have this disclaimer attached. The addition of this disclaimer is part of our ongoing cybersecurity initiative in an effort to combat spam and phishing emails. This message will serve as a constant reminder not to share your password. San Jacinto College ITS will never ask for your username and password details in an e-mail or by phone.
