Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great holiday break!
To kick off the new year, we wanted to provide additional key information and a status update on San Jac’s upcoming telephone system.
ITS and Verizon will be wrapping up remaining phone deployments and swaps over the next couple of weeks on each campus. If you have not yet received your new telephone, please be patient as your new phone will be deployed soon.
Beginning the week of January 10th, 2011, we will begin testing the new phone system by running it in parallel with the existing telephone system. This will allow us to address handset placement issues while ensuring that the College does not experience any interruptions to telephone services. When testing and issue resolutions are completed we will phase out the old telephone system and remove old telephones from each campus.
During the testing phase, employees will continue to use their old telephone as their primary phone. However, you will have the capability to make internal and external calls on your VoIP phone.
Please note that Verizon is still in the process of programming user and system configurations. As a result, users may still experience the following:
- Missing telephone extensions on phone
- Missing system features (e.g., Directory and Call Forwarding)
- Inability to access voicemail
ITS will provide an updated announcement once we have received confirmation that all system programming is complete.
Office and Telephone Moves
Please be aware that VoIP telephones should NOT be moved when relocating to a new office. If you are moving to a new location, please submit a ticket to Tech Support for assistance. This will ensure that ITS can properly document your extension and location in our system.
ITS has compiled a list of currently active fax machines on all SJC Campuses in order to ensure that they will remain active once we have switched to the VoIP system. When the new system is live, all departments will be able to continue using their fax machine as they normally do.
