San Jacinto College is in the process of upgrading its phone system. The new phone system will utilize Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. This will take the college from a conventional land line system to one that utilizes our robust data network to transfer telephone service throughout the college. With the implementation of a VoIP system, SJC will be migrating toward a converged network, where voice, data, and video all travel along the network.
Upgrading the phone system is necessary to meet the increased volume of telephone traffic and provide up-to-date telephone services including automated voice response that our current system is not able to offer. These include:
- Enhanced remote collaboration for students and faculty
- Robust mobile and wireless access to distance and eLearning resources
- Efficient means for sending automatic notification for campus emergencies and/or closures
- Improved call center capabilities
The project is scheduled to be completed by January 2011.
