Weekly Update – August 23, 2011

on August 23, 2011 in Weekly Update

Good Morning —

Today, I am speaking with the faculty and administrators at College Community Week. I will be providing them with some information that I wanted to share with all of our employees.

First, our enrollment looks very healthy for the fall semester.  While we are still enrolling and it is difficult to compare point in time enrollment information between years, it appears that each campus will have significant growth.  We budgeted 3.5% growth but I suspect that we will exceed that projection.  Thanks to all of you for the extra efforts!!  I know that all of you have been stretched thinner than normal during this crunch time.  Please know that I appreciate your efforts and I know our students do too!!

Second, in my comments this morning, I discussed two important points about the 2011-2012 budget.   First, while I do not have a final dollar amount for the compensation pool or the final raise percentages, I do know that all employees who received a valuable contribution rating will receive a 3% increase for 2011-2012. The raise percentages for those employees who received a rating of notable or exceptional will not be determined until the budget is approved on Monday (August 29th), but the percentages for employees in these categories will exceed 3%.

Additionally, built into the budget assumptions for the 2011-2012 is an allocation for the compensation study.  At this point, I do not know the final allocation, but I wanted to assure you that some dollar amount will be set aside. We are moving forward with the compensation study and in understanding the data and developing an implementation plan. I am still committed to communicating information about the compensation study, but at this point, I believe it is premature to do so. More work needs to be done to understand the details. My goal for this study is to ensure internal equity and  market competitiveness.  I am still moving forward with this goal. The Strategic Leadership Team is working toward having a plan in November.

Have a great rest of the week!
