To All San Jacinto College Employees:

Organizational Announcement—Provost Search Update

I wish to express my thanks to the interview committee for the tremendous work that they have done over a compressed timeframe. The provost interview committee has recommended two of the four candidates thus far to Laurel Williamson and me.  The two recommendations are for Brenda Jones and Van Wigginton. It is my pleasure to announce that I have approved these recommendations, and the positions have been offered and accepted. The effective date will be Monday, May 13, 2013.  Please join me in congratulating Brenda and Van!

Ongoing Search Effort

We will continue our search for the remaining provost position, and we will not assign campus responsibilities until we have filled all three positions.  I realize this extends our search into the summer, when many faculty are not on contract, but we cannot delay this process.  As we find suitable candidates, we will conduct forums at the campuses and communicate via email the dates, times, and locations.  If you are interested in attending the forums, please watch for the emails.  We are still on an aggressive timeline and hope to have another person selected by early July at the latest.

Other Next Steps

As indicated above, Van will remain at Central Campus, Brenda will remain at the South Campus, and Richard Bailey will remain as the interim provost at the  North Campus. Once the third provost is selected, then final campus assignments will be made.  At that time, Richard Bailey will move into the position of Vice President for Accreditation and Special Initiatives.  Additionally, we will determine how to permanently fill the dean positions vacated by Brenda and Van.

I thank all of you for your support and patience during this process!
